Mary Durlak: The Vanishing Ditch—The Story of the Original Canal

Mary Durlak: The Vanishing Ditch—The Story of the Original Canal

What we think of today as the Erie Canal bears almost no resemblance to the first Erie Canal. This lecture will focus on the story of the original canal, which was built between 1817 and 1825, including the people who envisioned it and who built it, and its importance to American history. Take a brief look at how the original canal changed through two centuries to become today's Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. This free lecture led by Mary Durlak. Registration is required. Please call (716) 652-4440 or stop by 550 Main Street to sign up.
