German-Americans and WWI: How the War Affected the People and Their Culture

German-Americans and WWI: How the War Affected the People and Their Culture In-Person

Before sending troops overseas, the U.S. government created propaganda campaigns to garner public support to enter WWI. These efforts greatly impacted the lives of German-Americans, many of whom had ived in this country for generations. The images of scary Germans invading our shores created paranoia and even attacks on German-Americans and lead to many being sent to internment camps. The anti-German sentiment had a drastic effect on the culture and led to changes which are still part of our current way of life. Explore this moment in time with journalist and researcher Bonnie Fleischauer.
