To celebrate World Environment Day, Universal Anime Saturday presents unique animation-style films from four individual creators from different countries that deliver stunning, powerful, inspiring, and politically compelling environmental stories from the Climate Future Film Festival.
Feeling the Apocalypse (writer/director Chen Sing Yap) [Canada] — 8 mins. “An experienced psychotherapist wrestling with climate grief explores what it means to live in a dying world.” A picture story show.
I Was Just A Child (director Breech Asher Harani) [Philippines] — 6 mins. From a child’s point of view, told with shadow puppets, Super Typhoon Bopha devastates towns and families in the Philippines. English translations.
The Sprayer (director Farnoosh Abedi) [Iran] — 9 mins. “Is this a vision of where continued nature exploitation will bring us? Or is it a satire of where it already has? Heroes have a role in either case.” No dialogue.
Ola Ka Honua (director Jilli Rose) [Australia] — 22 mins. Auwahi, a storied forest in Maui, is healed and restored in a generation with help from many who decided to try when trying seemed daunting. Partial narration and captions.
