What Does It All Mean? Exploring the Dictionary In-Person
Check out Central Library's Rare Book Room for the new exhibition, "What Does It All Mean? Exploring the Dictionary"
Organized in conjunction with representatives from the Dictionary Society of North America, this exhibition is about how dictionaries have defined our shared world. "What Does It All Mean?" explores the history of English dictionaries and the people who created them, with a focus on Samuel Johnson, Noah Webster, and the Oxford English Dictionary. The exhibition also showcases the broad range of different types of dictionaries-- everything from law and medical terms to regional slang phrases, and how these crucial books can help us understand each other.
The Rare Book Room is located on the first floor of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library's Central Library. The exhibition will free to the public and open during library hours through fall 2025.
