Make a Books for Kids children's book donation at any branch in May!

In the last thirty years, community support has made the Books for Kids donation campaign a success with over 3.2 million children's books collected and distributed to local schools, daycares, libraries, community service agencies, and those in need throughout the Western New York community. The 2026 drive kicks off this month and the public can again show their support by donating a new children's book between May 10–22 at:

  • All Wegmans stores in Erie and Niagara Counties
  • Paula's Donuts — All locations
  • Tom's Restaurant — 3221 Sheridan Drive, Amherst
  • The Buffalo News — Larkin at Exchange Building, 726 Exchange Street, Buffalo

Buffalo & Erie County Public Library locations will accept donations throughout the month of May.

A live donation drive with WGRZ TV Channel 2, the Library, The Buffalo News, Project Flight, and Townsquare Media will take place at Wegmans at 5275 Sheridan Drive in Williamsville on Friday, May 15 from 5:30 a.m.–12 noon. The Library2GO van will be on-site from 8:00–10:00 a.m. and WYRK's morning personality Clay Moden will be at Wegmans from 10:00–11:00 a.m. In addition to book donations, financial donations can be made to purchase books in braille, large-print, and other specialized formats. Call Project Flight at 716-858-8608 for details.

Books for Kids was created by Project Flight, Inc., a not-for-profit Buffalo organization established by educators to address the high rates of child poverty and illiteracy in the Western New York area. The goal of Books for Kids is to put a book in the hands of every child. Under the direction of Drs. Geraldine E. Bard and Elizabeth J. Cappella, Project Flight has been recognized by the New York State Department of Education for developing a suggested book list for educators, parents, children, and young adults.
